Job summary

OEConnection LLC is seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable dbt models powering business decisions. You will own Snowflake queries, materializations, and the overall analytics layer.

You will lead by example, mentor peers, and collaborate with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Engineers to turn raw data into reliable, governed assets, while driving AI-assisted workflows and best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of analytics engineering or related data roles.
• Expert-level dbt skills (Core/Cloud) and testing.
• Snowflake expertise in queries, materializations, and access control.
• Strong SQL and data modeling understanding.
• Experience building BI semantic layers with Sigma/Looker/Tableau/PowerBI.
• Excellent documentation and English communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable dbt models.
• Own model performance: Snowflake queries and materializations.
• Evolve dbt best practices including tests and docs.
• Code reviews for dbt PRs and establish conventions.
• Design Snowflake schemas, roles, and access controls.
• Monitor compute costs via profiling and warehouse policies.
• Partner with data platform/engineering on pipelines and external stages.
• Champion AI-assisted workflows within the team.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Design,build,andmaintainscalabledbtmodelsfollowingmodular,layeredarchitecture.
• Ownmodelperformance:optimizeSnowflakequeries,configurematerializations(incremental,table,view)andclusteringstrategies.
• Evolvedbtbestpractices:testingcoverage,documentation,andsourcefreshnesschecks.
• CodereviewsfordbtPRs,establishmodelingconventions,andcontributetotheteam’sanalyticsengineeringplaybook.
• DesignSnowflakedatabaseandschemastructures,managerolesandaccesscontrols,andoptimizewarehousesizing.
• Monitorandreducecomputecoststhroughqueryprofiling,resultcaching,andwarehouseauto-suspendpolicies.
• PartnerwithDataPlatform/Engineeringoningestionpipelines,Snowpipeconfigurations,andexternalstagesetups.
• UseClaudeandotherAItoolsasaforcemultiplier:acceleratemodelgeneration,documentationwriting,SQLrefactoring,andtestcreation.
• ChampionAI-assistedworkflowswithintheteam,sharingeffectivepromptingpatternsandusecasesthatimproveteamvelocity.
• Exploreagenticanalyticsworkflowsandcontributetotheiradoption.
• Partnerwithengineersandbusinessstakeholderstotranslateanalyticalrequirementsintorobustdatamodels.
• GuideandmentorAssociateandmid-levelAnalyticsEngineersthroughcodereviews,pairingsessions,andknowledgesharing.
• Defineteamconventionsaroundnaming,folderstructure,modelcontracts,andtestingthresholds.

Skills & Qualifications

• 5+yearsofexperienceinanalyticsengineering,dataengineering,oracloselyrelateddatarole.
• Expert-leveldbt(CoreorCloud):layeredmodeling,advancedtesting,macros,packages(dbt-utils,dbt-expectations),andCI/CDintegration.
• DeepSnowflakeexpertise:queryoptimization,materializationstrategies,clusteringandaccesscontrol.
• AdvancedSQLandperformancetuning.
• Strongunderstandingofdatamodelingconcepts.
• ExperiencebuildingormaintainingBIsemanticlayersandworkingwithtoolssuchasSigma,Looker,Tableau,orPowerBI.
• Excellentdocumentationhabits:youbelievemodelswithoutdocsaretechnicaldebt.
• StrongwrittenandverbalEnglishcommunication-youcanexplaindatadecisionstobothengineersandbusinessstakeholders.
