Job summary

ARUP Laboratories is seeking a Sr. Analytics Engineer to transform complex clinical and operational data into scalable data products that support analytics tooling and patient care at scale.

You will work with IT staff, Medical Directors, and Lab Managers to deepen the data model and enable modern analytics across the laboratory. ARUP Laboratories, based in Salt Lake City, is a national clinical and anatomic pathology reference laboratory and a University of Utah enterprise.

Qualifications

• Apply software engineering best practices (version control, modularity, automated testing).
• Architect and optimize the query layer for analytics across data lake/warehouse using Athena, Redshift, or BigQuery.
• Own the ingestion and orchestration frameworks that stitch together disparate clinical data sources (Glue, Airflow, Dagster).
• Lead modernization of ARUP’s data ontology for clinical and business domains (Laboratory Operations, Revenue Cycle, Genomics, Quality Control).
• Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap for the data platform and cloud storage/compute at scale.
• Collaborate with leadership to collect requirements and write code for STATE data products.

Works with Information Technology Staff, Medical Directors, and Lab Managers to understand the nuances of our laboratory operations to augment our data model for modern analytics tooling. The Role

• Apply software engineering best practices (version control, modularity, and automated testing, etc) to our data transformation layer using industry-standard frameworks such as dbt.
• Architect and optimize the query layer to ensure performant analytics across our data lake and warehouse using serverless or managed technologies like Athena, Redshift, or BigQuery.
• Own the ingestion and orchestration frameworks that stitch together disparate clinical data sources using modern tools such as Glue, Airflow, or Dagster.
• Lead the modernization of ARUP’s data ontology for specific clinical and business domains such as Laboratory Operations, Revenue Cycle, Genomics, and Quality Control.
• Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap for our data platform, informing high-level decisions on how to scale cloud-based storage and compute to handle high-volume data.
• Collaborate with leadership to collect requirements and write the code for Secure, Timely, Accurate, Trusted, and Extensible (STATE) data products.
• Other duties as assigned

Physical and Other Requirements

• Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
• PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.

• Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
