Job summary

Amplitude is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Analytics Compute Platform team in San Francisco. You will design and build core parts of the query/compute engine powering analytics across Amplitude’s product suite, while evolving the compute API and semantic layer to support a more generic table.

You’ll also unify the core data model to include non-event data and improve performance, reliability, and scalability.

Qualifications

• Strong backend or distributed-systems engineering experience, touching OLAP databases, query engines, or data infrastructure.
• Experience with SQL, query planning/execution, or building APIs that many other engineering teams depend on.
• Comfort balancing flexibility, performance, and ease of use, making deliberate tradeoffs.
• Track record of owning ambiguous, cross-team projects end-to-end.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; work affects multiple products built on top of the compute layer.
• Experience with large-scale event or time-series data systems.
• Experience designing semantic layers, ORMs, or data-modeling abstractions.
• Familiarity with columnar databases or OLAP query engines.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core parts of the query/compute engine powering analysis across Amplitude's product suite.
• Evolve the compute API and semantic layer used by other teams to support a more generic table.
• Unify and evolve the core data model to represent non-event data alongside event data.
• Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of query planning and execution.
• Collaborate with Session Replay, Experiment, CDP, Query, and frontend teams to align needs.
• Take ownership of projects end-to-end, from design through rollout.
