Position Summary
The Senior Analyst will support the development and execution of data-driven strategies across Sysco’s Specialty companies. This role is responsible for generating actionable insights through deep analysis of business & category performance, trends, and customer dynamics. The Senior Analyst will partner closely with leadership team to design identify and prioritize category opportunities, drive strategic recommendations, and enhance decision-making processes across category management, assortment optimization, and program performance.
This individual must be intellectually curious, detail-oriented, and highly proficient in data manipulation and visualization tools. The role requires a strong balance of technical skills, business acumen, and communication capabilities to effectively synthesize insights and drive impact in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze business and category performance data to uncover actionable insights and support strategic decision-making.
- Conduct ad hoc deep-dive analyses to assess business challenges and opportunities, working closely with Commercial Strategy leadership.
- Design and build scalable, automated analytical tools to support category management, assortment strategy, and program effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain advanced SQL queries and scripts to extract, transform, and validate data from various internal systems.
- Translate complex data into clear, compelling presentations using Excel and PowerPoint to support leadership discussions.
- Gain a deep understanding of Sysco’s category P&L structure and the key levers that impact merchandising economics and gross profit performance.
- Contribute to the development of program and pilot KPIs and reporting frameworks used to manage and track performance across Specialty businesses.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in business, Mathematics, Economics, Analytics, or a related field.
- Preferred: Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s in Business Analytics, Finance, or related discipline).
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, or strategy roles.
- Industry experience preferred in Food Distribution, CPG, Retail, Consulting, or Financial Services (Banking/Private Equity).
- Exposure to Merchandising, Category Management, or P&L analysis is highly desirable.
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, complex formulas) and PowerPoint.
- Strong SQL skills required; proficiency in Python a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex datasets and extract insights that drive business impact.
- Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills with a high level of data curiosity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to simplify complex topics for diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter who works independently, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
