Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Sr Analyst M&A to support deal origination, diligence, valuation and negotiation for US utility-scale wind, solar and battery projects. You will work with AES Clean Energy teams and external consultants, coordinating across finance, engineering, and legal to drive transactions from start to finish.

The role requires 2–3 years in renewable energy M&A, strong Excel modeling skills, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an analytical or renewable energy subject area.
  • 2–3 years of renewable energy M&A and development experience (wind, solar and/or BESS).
  • Strong analytical experience and intellectual curiosity.
  • Proficiency in Excel financial modeling and MS Word/PowerPoint.

We are currently looking for a Sr Analyst M&A who will report to the Director, M&A. The Senior Analyst will be part of a team that leads project & platform acquisition and divestiture efforts in the US for utility-scale wind, solar and battery storage. This role will provide a wholistic view of deal origination, project and portfolio diligence and valuation, and transaction negotiation and execution. It will broaden the Sr Analyst’s network to a range of developers selling projects in the U.S. and provide the Associate exposure to AES Clean Energy’s investment opportunities that enable it to deliver and expand its industry-leading renewable energy solutions to decarbonize the power sector.

Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough due diligence (including development, commercial, technical, financial, and legal evaluation, and data validation), deal negotiation, and complex transaction execution.
  • Manage cross-functional teams to complete due diligence and support M&A leads through an in-depth understanding of real estate, project permitting, and interconnection.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to senior management, investment committee, and stakeholders.
  • Update project documentation through the acquisition lifecycle and assist with project timeline and deadline management related to acquisition activities and post-closing items to support transition to construction/operations team.
  • Oversee the integration of acquired projects into the company's portfolio, coordinating with relevant teams to ensure seamless transition and operation.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization including project finance, project engineering/management, grid services, and legal.
  • Assist M&A deal leads to several work streams for live transactions, including use of confidential information memoranda, coordination of the Q&A process and due diligence effort with internal subject matter experts and external consultants.
  • Conduct market research using AES data subscriptions and public sources to inform business development efforts; prepare and deliver presentations and reports to communicate findings and recommendations to internal teams.
  • Work closely with AES Valuation and Investment teams to review valuation models, including DCF and earnings models, to assess individual projects or businesses.
  • Analyze and compare prospective M&A transactions and investments under the direction of transaction leaders, including strategic and financial impacts and risks.
  • Develop and maintain internal tools and processes for tracking all active, inactive, and closed M&A deal activities.
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.
Desired Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an analytical or renewable energy subject area.
  • Understanding of the key value drivers and risks of Clean Energy transactions (wind, solar, battery storage); familiarity with regional electricity markets in US is a plus.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of relevant renewable energy M&A and renewable development experience (wind, solar and/or BESS).
  • Demonstrated analytical experience and intellectual curiosity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate complex matters in a concise manner to diverse team members.
  • Ability to work both well independently and building relationships with other departments to accomplish objective.
  • Adept at Excel financial modeling and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to cope with tight deadlines and time‑sensitive milestones/deliverables.
  • Passion for renewable energy and interest in developing deep industry expertise energized by engaging in new industries/technologies; continuous learner mindset.
Location

Salt Lake City (UT), Louisville (CO), Houston, NYC or any other state within the US where AES has an office.

Salary

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $94,000 and $112,625/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
