Job summary

City and County of Denver – Community Planning and Development (CPD) seeks an Engineer‑Architect Specialist to lead design management for the DEN airport program and related complex city projects. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture required.
• Three years of experience at the level of Senior Engineer or Senior Architect.
• Experience interpreting IBC, IFC, and NFPA standards.
• Professional knowledge of architecture and engineering principles.
• PE or Architect registration required (Colorado or out-of-state with Colorado registration by probation).

Responsibilities

• Administer CPD’s review and permit-issuance program for DEN.
• Provide specialized supervision on complex city projects.
• Evaluate engineering methods and serve as the city’s technical expert on codes.
• Manage permit processes for program applications and coordinate with external agencies.
• Develop and apply life-safety plans that meet modern codes for airport projects.
• Ensure design document reviews meet standards and facilitate construction.
• Coordinate with other city departments and agencies on airport initiatives.
• Recommend alternative engineering approaches and assess feasibility and costs.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to update policies and CCD/airport goals.
• Engage stakeholders to refine scope during design and construction phases.
