Job summary

Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah, GA is seeking a Senior Aircraft Component Technician for Conventional or CNC to repair and overhaul internal and external aircraft assemblies in accordance with GAC Repair Station requirements.

The role requires setup and operation of mills and lathes (3-5 axis), reading blueprints and CAD models, and training junior machinists. Proficiency with shop math and licenses preferred; travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; FAA Repair Station knowledge preferred.
  • A&P license, FCC license or NCATT certification preferred.
  • Ability to read & interpret blueprints, engineering documents, CMP data, CBs and ASCs.
  • Proficiency with tools and shop math; strong problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Set up conventional and CNC machines (Mills 3–Axis to 5-Axis and Lathes) and select tools.
  • Read blueprints and CAD models to guide repairs and overhauls.
  • Perform complex machining tasks and inspect parts for conformance.
  • Train junior machinists and maintain precision measuring tools.
  • Maintain shop math skills, perform weight/balance checks with FAA forms.
  • Provide technical support to Customer Support Coordinators and QC.

Job description

Senior Aircraft Component Technician for Conventional or CNC in GAC Savannah

Shift: 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday-Thursday

During the shift, the employee will perform headquarter HVAC maintenance and return to service on the SOC. The shift follows standard duty hours for the specified engagement period.

Unique Skills

Working with a high degree of independence, provide leadership and technical guidance while performing the repair and overhaul of internal and external aircraft assemblies, subassemblies and components in accordance with GAC Repair Station requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setup Conventional and/or CNC machines to perform operations (Mills 3,4 and 5-axis and/or lathes), computes angular dimensions where required, locates and lays out reference lines, center points, and lines.
  • Determine the proper cutting tools required for the machining task.
  • Select appropriate speeds and feeds for conventional machining conditions.
  • Perform complex machining tasks.
  • Check own work for conformance to specifications using precision measuring equipment.
  • Assist and train junior level machinists.
  • Apply shop mathematics including trigonometry functions.
  • Operate conventional machinery including drills, grinders, milling machines and lathes.
  • Perform basic PC tasks.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and CAD models.
Essential Functions
  1. Mastery of advanced skills, procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment, as appropriate to area of specialization.
  2. Perform, instruct and oversee repair of mechanical and electronic assemblies through removals, repairs or replacement of defective parts, fabrication of replacement parts, and installations in accordance with blueprints and maintenance manuals.
  3. Set up and operate test equipment to perform functional and operational tests on mechanical and electronic component repairs for return to service or initial certification.
  4. Inspect all detail parts using blueprints and manuals to ensure conformance.
  5. Remove skins and related components on flight controls and secondary structure components, locate and reinstall parts.
  6. Demonstrate mastery of repair techniques, troubleshooting, soldering and protective coatings application.
  7. Maintain and calibrate precision measuring and inspection tools.
  8. Keep required paperwork in accordance with FAA Repair Station requirements.
  9. Master shop material and component flow through work orders in accordance with Repair Station requirements.
  10. Comply with all company and legislative environmental health and safety regulations.
Additional Functions
  1. Lay‑out, remove, fabricate and/or install major and minor repairs to flight controls and other secondary structure components using honeycomb core sandwich construction techniques, composite repair techniques, test bench procedures, hydraulic press procedures and servicing carts.
  2. Fabricate and repair sheet metal and associated mechanical parts, components and equipment by rolling, shrinking, stretching, braking, riveting or other mechanical means.
  3. Remove and install APUs and perform all required APU maintenance for all GAC aircraft models.
  4. Provide technical support to Customer Support Coordinators and Technical Services.
  5. Perfom complex troubleshooting and subsequent repairs to electronic assemblies by removing and replacing circuit components using acceptable soldering techniques.
  6. Fabricate and repair wiring and electrical assemblies and harnesses utilizing splicing, soldering and pinning of wires.
  7. Perform, in conjunction with QC representatives, mass weight and balance on repaired flight controls using required FAA Repair Station forms.
  8. Assist with training Aircraft Component Repair Technicians.
Education and Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required. A&P license, FCC license, or NCATT certification preferred. Ability to read & interpret blueprints, engineering documents, CMP data, CBs and ASCs. Proficiency in operation of all tools & equipment in depth. Basic understanding of shop math. Minimum of 6 years of experience in sheet metal and/or hydraulic overhaul, avionics/electronic component repair, or related fields. Accredited schooling in electronics and electrical systems may offset some experience requirements.
