Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks an R&D AI Engineer within the Data Sciences and Computing team to drive the development of next‑generation AI capabilities for national security and scientific challenges. You will work alongside experts to design, implement, and deploy scalable AI and simulation solutions across diverse domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus five years of directly relevant experience or equivalent
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Responsibilities

• Research and develop advanced AI models (LLMs, VLMs, GNNs) for national security and scientific applications
• Fuse physics-based and data-driven models in surrogate or multi-fidelity approaches
• Architect multi-agent systems for complex analysis and data gathering workflows
• Perform data analysis, feature engineering, and ML for trend analysis and anomaly detection
• Develop scalable algorithms for graph-structured data and networks
• Evaluate AI security, reliability, and credibility including explainability and UQ methods
• Integrate AI/ML into end-to-end engineering lifecycles and workflows
• Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams and communicate results clearly
• Mentor researchers and guide junior team members
