Job summary

Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking an AI Red Team Engineer to emulate adversaries and build capabilities for mission partners. You will work across Windows and Linux, craft AI security tactics, and develop tools to test real-world AI-enabled systems for national security objectives.

The role requires deep offensive cyber tradecraft, experience in red teaming, and collaboration with defense partners. Expect travel to SEI sites and CMU collaborations.

Qualifications

• BS in computer science, software engineering, networking, information systems, or a related technical field with ten years of experience; MS with eight years; PhD with five years; equiv. combination.
• Experience with penetration testing, red teaming, or exploit development.
• Experience with at least one command and control framework (e.g., Cobalt Strike, Sliver).
• Experience programming/scripting in Python, C, and BASH; willingness to learn PowerShell.
• Experience with reverse engineering tools (e.g., Ghidra, IDA Pro).
• Familiarity with TCP/IP and OSI model; able to explain network protocols; experience with Linux and Windows security.
• Two or more certs: OSCP, CPTS, FORGE/RIOT, GXPN, GAWN, GCPN, CRTO, CRTL, OSEP, OSWE, CCNA, CWNE.

Responsibilities

• Red team real-world AI-enabled systems in support of national security objectives.
• Develop new tactics, techniques, and procedures for attacking AI-enabled systems to improve defender readiness.
• Write tools in Python, PowerShell, C, and BASH to enable red team operations.
• Represent CERT portfolio and communicate with mission partners and internal collaborators.
