Job summary

Duolingo is seeking an Senior Engineering Manager for the AI Tooling and Ecosystem Team. You will lead a group building tools and services powering AI features, managing datasets, prompts, and evaluations.

You will enable product teams to define success criteria, select models, and implement prompt optimization loops. The role focuses on building AI-powered workflows, collaborating with AI Core Infrastructure, and shaping long-term roadmaps for AI-enabled product features.

Qualifications

• Experience leading, managing, and building a team of software and/or AI engineers.
• Track record of building AI-related infrastructure or user-facing products powered by AI.
• Familiarity with AI evaluation methods combining human and LLM-based evaluations.
• Strong crossfunctional leadership and communication; align AI, product, data science, and platform partners.
• Comfort leading through ambiguity in a fast-evolving AI landscape.
• Willingness/ability to relocate to Pittsburgh, PA or New York, NY.

Responsibilities

• Drive development of AI tooling to empower Duolingo's product teams.
• Manage datasets, prompts, and evaluations (human and LLM).
• Define success criteria and select models; build feedback loops.
• Streamline AI workflows for varying levels of AI expertise.
• Collaborate with AI Core Infrastructure, product, data science, and platform leaders.
• Own multiquarter roadmaps and crossfunctional alignment for impact.
