Job summary

NetApp in San Jose is seeking a Senior Engineerto contribute to AI BU, designing and delivering complex systems with hands-on implementation. You’ll mentor engineers, lead design discussions, and collaborate with product stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.

You will work within a hybrid environment, applying distributed systems expertise and AI/ML experience to drive scalable data infrastructure, analytics, and production-grade software for enterprise customers.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on software engineering with distributed systems.
• Experience as technical lead or primary design owner.
• Hands-on with cloud-native architectures (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud).
• Experience with AI/ML systems and data processing.
• Strong communication and ability to present trade-offs.
• Mentoring engineers and contributing to technical quality.
• Familiarity with CI/CD for production deployments.
• Exposure to distributed storage systems.

Responsibilities

• Act as tech lead or design owner from design through delivery.
• Design and build complex software systems with focus on correctness and performance.
• Write design docs and review adjacent team PRs.
• Write production code and review complex designs.
• Translate requirements into technical designs with stakeholders.
• Mentor and grow less experienced engineers.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks and debt.
• Help enforce best practices in design, testing, observability, and ops.
• Stay current with new technologies and advocate value-added adoptions.
