Job summary

Petal seeks a Senior AI Platform Developer to lead the design and operation of production-grade AI platform capabilities used by product engineers to build, deploy, evaluate, and govern AI agents.

You will drive end-to-end ownership of platform initiatives, build services for orchestration, runtime, tool integration, and governance, and mentor other developers while shaping secure, observable systems for scale.

Qualifications

• Ten+ years building/operating production SaaS products.
• Strong backend/platform/AI infrastructure background.
• Experience designing distributed systems and APIs for internal teams.
• Hands-on with modern AI/LLM infrastructure (agent orchestration, retrieval, tool calling, evaluation pipelines).
• Knowledge of secure, observable, testable, scalable production systems.
• Proven ability to mentor developers and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end ownership of complex AI platform initiatives from design through production operation.
• Build and operate platform services for agent orchestration, runtime execution, tool integration, lifecycle management, evaluation, observability, and governance.
• Create shared components such as agent catalogs, workflow builders, Agent IAM, evaluation frameworks, prompt/configuration management, guardrails, and observability tooling.
• Develop reusable APIs, SDKs, templates, reference implementations, and documentation for AI agent development.
• Make architecture decisions balancing speed, safety, scalability, maintainability, governance, and cost.
• Define standards for deployment, monitoring, evaluation, access control, cost management, and responsible AI practices.
• Partner with application, security, data, and product teams while mentoring developers and raising the technical bar.

Role overview

The Senior AI Platform Developer leads the design and operation of production-grade AI platform capabilities that product engineers reuse to build, deploy, evaluate, and govern AI agents. The role sets technical direction for a shared agent ecosystem that must be secure, observable, testable, and ready for production scale.

Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end ownership of complex AI platform initiatives from design through production operation.
• Build and operate platform services for agent orchestration, runtime execution, tool integration, lifecycle management, evaluation, observability, and governance.

Requirements

• Ten or more years of hands-on experience building and operating production SaaS products.
• Strong background in backend, platform, AI infrastructure, or agent infrastructure services.
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native services, and developer-facing capabilities for internal teams.
• Hands-on work with modern AI/LLM infrastructure such as agent orchestration, retrieval, tool calling, evaluation pipelines, Agent IAM, observability, model gateways, or responsible AI guardrails.
• Understanding of how to ship AI systems that are secure, observable, testable, governed, reliable, and cost-aware in production.
• Strong collaboration skills across product, engineering, security, data, and application teams, plus demonstrated ability to mentor other developers.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with the surrounding stack, including Azure AI services, LangGraph, Python, Node.js, TypeScript, Angular, semantic and vector search, RBAC, secrets management, and audit logging.
