Job summary

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking a Principal AI-Native Product Engineer to own architecture and deliver production-ready software using AI-assisted development practices in Durham, NC. You’ll shape standards and engineering practices for a leading retail commerce platform.

You’ll work hands-on across frontend, backend, APIs, and cloud services, guiding AI-driven delivery while protecting architectural integrity and long-term maintainability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Deep expertise in clean architecture and SOLID design principles
• Strong full-stack engineering experience
• Experience designing distributed enterprise applications
• Experience with contract-first API development
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex, or similar)
• Experience building automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong understanding of observability, telemetry, and production operations
• Excellent communication and technical leadership skills
• Demonstrated ownership of software from design through production support

Responsibilities

• Own products from idea through production, including architecture, implementation, testing, observability, deployment, and continuous improvement
• Design scalable, AI-friendly software architectures using SOLID principles and clean architecture
• Build enterprise applications across frontend, backend, APIs, integrations, and cloud services
• Leverage AI-native development tools to accelerate delivery
• Define contract-first APIs using OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, and strongly typed schemas
• Ensure software is testable, observable, secure, and production-ready from day one
• Review and validate AI-generated code for maintainability, security, and architectural quality
• Build reusable engineering assets including prompts, AI skills, automation, and developer tooling
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to rapidly deliver customer value
