Job summary

Amazon Inc. is seeking a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer to serve as the technical lead embedded with a strategic customer, guiding the customization and optimization of generative AI models at production scale.

You will define strategies, evaluate tradeoffs, and drive outcomes around quality, latency, and cost. You will architect distributed training and inference systems, lead optimization on AWS AI chips, and mentor a team of engineers and researchers, while shaping future AWS capabilities

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical engagement: embed with the customer as the technical lead for their model customization and optimization program, spanning multiple workstreams. Proactively frame the business problem, define success metrics and the evaluation bar, and set a technical roadmap that moves from proof of value to production.
• Define the customization strategy: decide the right path to quality, latency, and cost targets—prompting, distillation, supervised fine-tuning, preference optimization, RL (including RL with verifiable rewards), continued pre-training, task-specific adapters, or domain foundation models.
