Optum AI is UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise AI team. We are AI / ML scientists and engineers with deep expertise in AI / ML engineering for healthcare. We develop AI / ML solutions for high-impact opportunities across UnitedHealth Group businesses including UnitedHealthcare, Optum Financial, Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx. Our mission includes transforming healthcare through responsible AI / ML innovation and developing an enterprise AI / ML platform.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Develop novel AI approaches for healthcare using structured and unstructured data.
  2. Build and test deep learning and traditional ML models in distributed environments.
  3. Design experiments, conduct statistical analyses, and create data visualizations.
  4. Communicate findings with stakeholders and collaborate on solutions.
  5. Work with the Responsible Use of AI team to ensure compliance with policies.
  6. Develop documentation, patents, and publish in scientific forums.
  7. Collaborate with engineering teams on MLOps pipelines.
  8. Stay updated with the latest AI/ML technologies and literature.

Required Qualifications:

  1. MS in computer science or related field with 2+ years of AI/ML experience, or a PhD in a related field focusing on AI/ML.
  2. 2+ years of experience with Python, ML methods, and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with LLM frameworks and NLP approaches.
  2. Experience with distributed computing such as Spark.
  3. Experience with Snowflake and relational databases.
  4. Experience with GitHub and collaborative software projects.
  5. Strong technical communication skills.
  6. Remote employees must adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy.

The salary range is $89,000 to a variable upper limit, based on full-time employment and various factors. Benefits include comprehensive packages, incentive programs, stock purchase options, and more.
