Job summary

The MIL Corporation in Reston, VA seeks a senior Principal AI/ML Data Scientist to lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale data platforms for a federal government client. You will architect data ecosystems powering vector search, RAG, LLM apps, and Agentic AI capabilities, coordinating across infrastructure, cybersecurity, and software teams.

Qualifications

• 20+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, data engineering, distributed systems, cloud architecture, or AI/ML platform development.
• Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale AI/ML solutions.
• Experience designing production cloud-native data systems for analytics and AI workloads.
• Experience managing security, governance, and dependencies in complex enterprises.
• Experience building data pipelines for ML models, vector databases, and semantic search.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain enterprise-scale data platforms supporting vector databases, semantic search, RAG, and LLM apps.
• Set data quality controls, lineage, attribution, prompt traceability, and evaluation of AI outputs.
• Provide technical leadership for AI data infrastructure and cost-aware decisions.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Architects, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineers to deliver production-grade capabilities.
• Communicate AI concepts and operational impacts to senior leadership.
• Coordinate across organizations to maximize reuse of enterprise capabilities.
• Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting for reliability and performance.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices and innovation.
• Evaluate emerging AI tech, vector platforms, retrieval frameworks, and engineering approaches.
