Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. Payments is seeking a Vice President, Applied AI/ML Lead to own end-to-end delivery of high-impact AI/ML capabilities across the payments ecosystem.

You will apply modern neural networks, including Transformer architectures, to improve fraud/risk outcomes, automation, and client experience, balancing latency, scale, and explainability. You will set technical direction, lead reviews, and mentor teams while partnering with Product, Engineering, Risk, Compliance, and Data teams

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or related field, plus 6+ years of industry experience delivering applied ML.
• Proven track record of shipping ML models into production with measurable business impact.
• Strong hands-on expertise in neural networks and Transformers, including practical fine-tuning and distillation techniques.
• Strong software engineering skills in Python with PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Responsibilities

• Own a major AI/ML problem area end-to-end from opportunity sizing through production rollout.
• Design and build production-grade ML systems that operate at payments scale with constrained latency.
• Develop Transformer-based models and apply fine-tuning, distillation, and compression for deployment.
• Define rigorous evaluation, monitoring, and governance for model lifecycle.
• Lead through influence with reviews, mentoring, and setting best practices.
• Communicate tradeoffs and risks clearly to senior stakeholders.
