Job summary

Celestica is seeking a Senior Principal, HW Design Engineering (AI/ ML Architect) in San Jose, CA to spearhead AI adoption across Hardware Engineering. You will define the AI strategy, translate opportunities into scalable hardware solutions, and partner with AI, software resources and external partners to deliver value.

The role emphasizes hardware product development lifecycle expertise, collaboration with electrical, mechanical, thermal and systems teams, and governance for AI initiatives

Qualifications

• Minimum 12+ years of experience in hardware product development lifecycle.
• Experience across multiple hardware disciplines: electrical design, system architecture, mechanical, thermal, power, simulation, reliability, compliance, or test/validation.
• Strong understanding of how AI, Generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, and automation can be applied to engineering workflows and problem solving.
• Ability to translate hardware engineering challenges into technical requirements and scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain the AI and intelligent automation strategy and roadmap for Hardware Engineering.
• Partner with multiple engineering teams to identify and prioritize AI opportunities.
• Drive AI opportunities from idea to production deployment and scaled adoption.
• Translate hardware problems into AI-enabled solutions and requirements.
• Provide technical direction for AI-enabled applications and automation.
• Evaluate external AI platforms and vendor strategies for hardware problems.
• Establish governance, data security, and validation for AI initiatives.
• Measure KPIs like hours saved, cycle-time reduction, and ROI.
