Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior AI Foundations Engineer to lead the AI Foundations team, drive hiring, coaching, and the technical direction across shared AI services, and own the roadmap toward 2027.

You will partner with Product and senior engineers to balance rapid model and agent innovation with reliability, security, and cost, while shaping vendor relationships and governance with Security, Legal, and Finance.

Qualifications

• Own the “Neutral Foundations” pillar and set a 2027 strategy and roadmap.
• Drive operational excellence of the AI primitives/services.
• Deliver LLM Gateway and MCP Gateway; pave the road for model routing and evaluations.
• Grow the next rung of leadership on AI Foundations.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI Foundations engineering, hiring, coaching, technical direction, prioritization, and delivery across its shared AI services.
• Partner with Product and senior engineers to balance rapid model and agent innovation with reliability, security, developer experience, and cost.
• Own engineering-side vendor relationships and governance with Security, Legal, and Finance on AI governance and spend controls.
