Job summary

Merlin Labs in Boston, MA, is seeking a senior AI/ML infrastructure engineer to own the Foundation models, training and inference infrastructure, and end-to-end data pipelines for autonomous flight systems.

You will mentor engineers, drive architecture decisions, and collaborate with AI, simulation, and flight software teams to ensure safe, scalable AI deployment in real-world environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering with AI/ML infrastructure
• Experience building production-grade AI foundations and data pipelines
• Proficient in PyTorch/TensorFlow and at least one systems language

Responsibilities

• Strategize Foundation model selection, refactor and maintain core AI models
• Define benchmarks and safety/reliability standards for evaluation
• Architect data pipelines ingesting, labeling and versioning flight data
• Collaborate with AI infra, Simulation and Flight Software teams
• Mentor junior/mid-level engineers and lead design reviews
• Lead scoping for large AI foundation projects with actionable plans
• Evaluate open-source tooling and contribute improvements
• Document architecture decisions and operational runbooks
• Contribute to hiring through interviews and setting engineering bar
