Job summary

Left Field Labs is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy AI-powered features at the core of the illumend platform in Culver City, CA. This hands-on role requires writing production code daily, leveraging modern AI tools, and delivering secure, reliable solutions in a fast-paced environment.

You will work on end-to-end AI features, from data extraction on insurance documents to contract compliance checks, with a focus on performance and robust engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Senior-level experience building production web applications with Python (FastAPI) and frontend (React/TypeScript).
• Shipping LLM-powered features to production with prompt design and retrieval.
• Experience extracting structured data from unstructured documents or PDFs is a plus.
• Strong focus on security, reliability, and clean code in a regulation-heavy domain.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship production AI features end to end for the illumend platform.
• Design LLM pipelines across backend and frontend services (Python/FastAPI, React/TypeScript).
• Create evaluation sets to measure accuracy and monitor latency and cost in production.
• Embed AI development tools into daily workflows and ensure quality reviews of all outputs.
• Develop prototypes and iterate toward production-ready features.
• Analyze raw documents and API specs to handle edge cases accurately.
