Job summary

Mapbox is seeking an experienced engineer to own the design and delivery of a multi-component AI system across our location platform. You will define measurement and evaluation for non-deterministic outputs, build data pipelines, and drive continuous improvement from API to data representations.

You will balance technical perfection with shipping usable increments, work on latency/cost targets, and participate in on-call rotations to keep services available 24/7.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree or equivalent in CS/ML.
• Experience leading AI system design across multiple teams.
• Strong background in evaluating non-deterministic systems and building measurement frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Define product behavior and create evaluation systems for non-deterministic AI outputs.
• Run continuous evaluation of APIs, SDKs, data representations and reference apps from an end-user perspective.
• Own MVP delivery against a north-star technical design while shipping useful increments.
• Build data pipelines including ingestion, conflation, entity resolution, quality checks and batch/streaming jobs.
• Track external datasets and benchmarks to decide when to adopt existing solutions or build in-house.
• Design data feedback loops so product usage generates data to improve future iterations.
• Define the boundary between models and the tools they call, and maintain model harnesses.
• Work toward latency and cost targets per request with caching and routing optimizations.
• Develop internal harnesses and tools for rapid iteration and shareable components.
• Improve team eval practices through code and design reviews.
• Contribute to on-call rotations to ensure system availability.
