Job summary

Epic Games is seeking a Principal AI Programmer to design and ship LLM-driven systems inside Unreal Engine. You will build the full stack from engine tooling to cloud services and web UI, enabling LLMs to operate within the editor and runtime environments.

Collaboration with engineers across engine, tools, and backend, plus mentoring, will be core parts of the role. The position emphasizes hands-on engineering, architecture, and safe, scalable deployment of AI capabilities in a gaming context,

Qualifications

• Experience in game engine architecture and editor scripting.
• Proven ability to ship products powered by LLMs or strong understanding of LLMs.
• Experience with cloud-native services and databases.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python (or a web backend language).
• Ability to work full-stack and reason about tradeoffs across engine and backend.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design and build LLM-driven agents inside Unreal Engine.
• Develop cloud-hosted harness, services, and database mediating between LLMs and engine.
• Work across engine tooling, cloud backend, and web UI to ship end-to-end features.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging LLM capabilities into engine tooling.
• Define direction for reliability, safety, and evaluation of LLM-driven automation.
• Mentor teammates on engine internals and LLM system design.
