Job summary

Bates White Economic Consulting is a Washington, DC-based boutique firm delivering advanced economic, financial, and econometric analyses to law firms, companies, and agencies. We seek a senior AI solutions engineer to design, deploy, and scale complex AI workflows across cloud platforms.

You will collaborate with leadership to translate business needs into robust, production-grade AI systems, while enforcing responsible-AI practices and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, engineering is required; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in software/data engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ hands-on AI solution development with LLMs/agent-based systems.
• Strong understanding of LLM architecture, capabilities, and limitations.
• Proficiency in Python and modern AI/ML frameworks; familiarity with multi-modal models is a plus.
• Experience building agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, and LLM integrations (LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel).
• Experience with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Databricks, AWS Bedrock/SageMaker, Vertex AI/Gemini.
• Experience with vector databases and embedding models; REST API integration; MLOps/LLMOps tooling.
• Familiarity with Azure and other cloud providers; data privacy and responsible-AI considerations.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy AI workflows leveraging LLMs and AI platforms (Azure/AWS/Google).
• Develop and maintain multi-step agent workflows with tools, function calls, and RAG.
• Apply understanding of LLMs, prompts, context, embeddings, and tradeoffs for use cases.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into production AI solutions.
• Build reusable frameworks and pipelines for data engineering to scale AI across clouds.
• Establish and enforce responsible AI practices, governance, and security policies.
• Monitor and optimize AI system performance, cost, and reliability; manage token usage.
• Create CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for AI workflows and lifecycle management.
• Extend AI solutions to multi-modal use cases (vision/audio) as needed.
• Stay current with AI trends and evaluate new models and platforms.
