Job summary

The University of Louisville is hiring a Senior AI Engineer to research and build physical AI systems that move intelligence from servers into the real world, enabling autonomous sensing, understanding, decision making, and action in clinical imaging pipelines, robotics, and cyber-physical infrastructure.

Preferred focus areas include medical imaging, government/defense, and industry/agriculture with real-time autonomous execution.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Data Science with 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with physical AI, robotics, embodied AI, or edge/embedded deployment.
• Proficiency in computer vision and deep learning, securing data in sensitive environments.
• Experience with security controls (HIPAA, NIST 800-53) and secure engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop advanced computer-vision and foundation models, including self-supervised learning for domain-specific tasks (e.g., medical imaging).
• Build world-models and robotics systems for physics-aware reasoning and sim-to-real transfer.
• Engineer cyber-physical and distributed systems: edge inference, multimodal sensor fusion, fleet learning.
• Deploy AI onto edge hardware, drones, mobile robots, and sensor networks for real-time data collection and action.
• Apply Sense→Understand→Decide→Act to healthcare imaging, defense, and industry deployments.
• Produce open-source tools, testbeds, and peer-reviewed research.
• Operate within secure environments, applying cybersecurity and institutional controls across every system.
