Essex Technology in Irvine, CA is seeking a Senior Application Developer to design, build, and support serverless, cloud-native applications using an AI-first development workflow. You will own architecture and code quality, working with AI coding tools to deliver scalable, secure solutions.

The role is ideal for an experienced full-stack engineer who wants to shape modern software, collaborate with stakeholders, and lead architectural reviews while maintaining production systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of full-stack web development across lifecycle.
• Deep knowledge of architecture and design patterns.
• Strong automated testing and TDD.
• Ability to capture requirements and write precise specs.
• Experience with AI coding tools.
• Experience building serverless apps (AWS Lambda, Vercel).
• Proficiency in HTML5, CSS, JS and at least one backend language.
• Knowledge of SQL and DBs like Snowflake / PostgreSQL.
• Experience in agile development and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop web applications for internal and external customers, using agentic AI tools to plan, implement, and iterate quickly while applying usability concepts.
• Build on serverless architecture (AWS, Vercel) across front-end UI, back-end APIs, and data, using low-code tools where appropriate.
• Work with stakeholders to shape requirements and translate into clear specs and acceptance criteria for AI-assisted implementation.
• Define architecture, data models, and design patterns, guiding AI agents to implement within them.
• Own test strategy: unit, integration, regression suites for AI-generated code.
• Lead code quality, security, and performance, reviewing AI-generated code.
• Maintain, support, modernize existing apps, using AI to analyze and refactor legacy code.
• Lead architecture/design reviews, backlog refinement, and scrum events.
• Triage and resolve production issues; deploy changes via CI/CD pipelines.
• Contribute to best practices for secure, responsible AI usage.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
