Job summary

MetTel in New York City is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead a major platform modernization, migrating a legacy enterprise web app to a modern stack (NestJS, React/TypeScript). You will work closely with Claude Code as part of your workflow, guiding AI-assisted generation and applying your own architectural judgment.

You will own end-to-end development across backend, frontend, and data layers, deploy on cloud platforms, and uphold code quality while mentoring teammates in an agile,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering delivering production systems.
• Strong TS/JS and Node.js experience; NestJS or similar backend framework.
• Solid React experience building complex data-driven web apps.
• Relational database experience with MSSQL and ORM frameworks.
• Cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and hands-on DevOps with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Comfort reading legacy code and AI-assisted development tools.
• Strong communication to explain decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Migrate legacy enterprise web app to a modern stack with backward compatibility to MSSQL.
• Use Claude Code as a primary tool to generate and refactor code while supervising output.
• Build backend, frontend, and data layers across JS, Python, TypeORM, MSSQL.
• Migrate legacy processes to Temporal.io including long-running tasks and workflows.
• Design and maintain RESTful APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger, ensuring clean contracts.
• Deploy and manage solutions on AWS/Azure/GCP with CI/CD and IaC.
• Establish engineering standards and conduct code reviews for quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote responsible AI-assisted development.
