Job summary

CarGurus is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, AI Developer Experience, to build tooling and platforms that accelerate hundreds of engineers. You will standardize AI agentic development, work with Claude Code, MCP, and AWS-based services, and mentor peers. You don't need car knowledge to contribute.

You will own well-scoped work, partner with engineers and product managers, and help raise development productivity and safety across the org.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of hands-on full-stack design and development with Python.
• Experience building web apps and cloud-native systems on AWS.
• Production-level exposure to AI frameworks or APIs (e.g. FastAPI, Anthropic, LangChain/LangGraph, LangFuse, Evals).
• Experience using AI coding tools (assistants, agents, MCP) or eagerness to adopt them.
• Working knowledge of OAuth2/OIDC authentication.
• Comfort writing tests and using observability tools.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship developer tooling, framework components, and reusable templates to raise productivity and quality.
• Contribute to AI agent workflows and integration with LLM APIs and orchestration frameworks.
• Evaluate new AI development technologies and share findings with the team.
• Roll out AI tools and practices to engineering teams, including documentation.
• Apply guardrails and standards, helping product teams adopt them.
• Learn, experiment, and advocate for new technologies to move the business forward.
• Investigate root causes and improve system reliability and performance.
