CarGurus is hiring a Senior Principal Software Engineer in our Consumer Commerce department to lead AI-driven experiences and set technical direction across the team. You will mentor engineers, drive high-visibility AI initiatives from concept to production at scale, and collaborate with Product, UX, and Analytics to deliver trusted vehicle information.

This role emphasizes innovation, performance, and user-centric design.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience architecting resilient, scalable systems.
• Hands-on with LangChain, LangGraph, and LangFuse in Python.
• Broad knowledge of the AI framework and tooling beyond Python.
• Full-stack experience across frontend, backend, and platform layers; API/REST in Java; React.
• Strong communicator able to influence technical direction across teams.
• Experience in the AWS ecosystem is a plus.
• Experience with agentic programming and multi-agent workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy consumer-facing experiences end-to-end for 45 million monthly visitors.
• Serve as AI expert and advisor for Consumer AI projects; guide architecture and implementation choices.
• Guide platform and infrastructure decisions for AI deployments (storage, memory, load, observability).
• Evaluate AI framework/language options; develop proofs-of-concept and explain trade-offs.
• Develop and run LangChain/LangGraph/LangFuse based apps in production; orchestrate AI agents.
• Drive adoption of fully agentic programming; define patterns and standards for teams.
