Job summary

Workday is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Context and Semantics to lead the backend infrastructure powering AI Agents. You will design and scale RAG pipelines, vector search, and query federation across data stores, while ensuring security and governance.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in backend/distributed systems, 5+ years in Java/Python/Scala/Go, and 1+ year building LLМ apps or RAG pipelines. Hybrid work model with primary location in Pleasanton, CA.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend or distributed systems.
• 5+ years of hands-on programming in Java, Python, Scala, or Go.
• 1+ years building production-grade LLM apps, RAG pipelines, or vector search.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and deploy backend services and data pipelines for Workday’s AI Agents.
• Design and optimize enterprise-grade RAG pipelines and vector DB integration.
• Build distributed query layers (e.g., Trino) to fetch context across systems.
• Develop LLM orchestration workflows using LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.
• Embed RBAC and data governance into retrieval and context layers.
• Optimize low-latency, high-throughput architectures and scale.
