Job summary

Workday, Inc. is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Context and Semantics to build the data and context layer powering Workday’s AI Agents. You’ll join a team of engineers delivering scalable backend microservices and data pipelines that connect enterprise data stores to LLMs.

You will implement RAG pipelines, vector DB integrations, and query federation services, collaborating with senior engineers to ensure security, performance, and reliability in a fast-paced enterprise environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in backend development or data systems.
• 2+ years programming in Java, Python, Scala, or Go.
• 1+ year exposure to AI/ML concepts, LLM APIs, vector DBs, or RAG architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test scalable backend microservices, APIs, data pipelines.
• Build and maintain enterprise RAG pipelines and vector DB integrations.
• Support distributed query execution features (e.g., Trino) for secure data retrieval for LLMs.
• Implement orchestration logic and context-management components for agent workflows.
• Ensure data privacy, tenant isolation, and RBAC compliance.
• Write unit/integration tests, participate in code reviews, maintain reliability and monitoring.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, PMs, and leads to deliver code.
