Job description

Casella Construction is seeking to hire a Senior Aggregate Excavator Operator to join our Aggregate Team in North Clarendon, VT. The Senior Aggregate Excavator Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery to excavate, move, and grade earth, rock, and other materials within mining quarries and construction sites. They ensure the efficient and safe extraction and transportation of aggregate materials, conduct regular equipment maintenance, adhere to safety protocols, and collaborate with team members to complete projects on time. Additionally, they train and mentor junior operators, monitor work quality, and ensure compliance with mining regulations and environmental standards.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience operating excavators in a construction or mining environment, is a highly skilled and experienced excavator operator with a strong understanding of mining quarry operations, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and efficiency, eager to contribute to an innovative, industry-leading team.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate excavators to perform various tasks such as digging, trenching, and loading materials.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks and regular maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete projects on time and within specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and project plans to determine the best approach to excavation tasks.
  • Monitor and control the quality of work performed, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Train and mentor junior operators to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Work specifically within mining quarries to extract and transport aggregate materials efficiently and safely.
  • Ensure compliance with mining regulations and environmental standards.
  • Adapt to the unique challenges of quarry operations, including working with varying rock types and managing dust and noise levels.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating excavators in a construction or mining setting.
  • Proven ability to operate various types of excavators and attachments.
  • Strong understanding of excavation techniques and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, and project plans.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) certification.
  • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
  • Must be able to safely climb and dismount a ladder.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and climb inclines for the duration of the shift.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
