Job summary

Bread Financial seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer – Agentic AI to design and deliver core agent capabilities, including policy execution, reasoning, orchestration, and failure handling, building production‑ready runtimes with state/memory, planners, and tool routing.

You will mentor engineers, uphold high engineering standards, implement safety controls, measure reliability, and collaborate with product and backend teams to ensure agents access real‑time data across SQL systems, CRMs, APIs,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field of study.
• 12+ years of experience in Software Engineering including 2+ years in AI/ML, LLMs, agent-based systems or large-scale distributed systems (e.g., LLM-powered applications, LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen) and 3+ years of experience implementing IaC (Terraform or Ansible).

Responsibilities

• Design and enhance multi-agent frameworks and LLM-powered autonomous systems with policy enforcement points.
• Implement and refine ReAct, CoT, and ToT reasoning loops and standardize their use across workflows.
• Measure agent decision reliability using telemetry and design deterministic tool-chaining patterns with safeguards.
• Architect safety controls, scoped tool access, validators, and human-escalation paths.
• Operate and scale production agentic AI platforms on Kubernetes with KPI telemetry and on-call support.
• Establish safety guardrails and compliance standards for high-risk workflows.
• Partner with Product to shape AI strategy and collaborate with data/backend teams for real-time data access.
