Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking a seasoned Associate General Counsel II to serve as senior transactional counsel and adviser to Officers and administrators. You will review, negotiate, and draft a high volume of contracts, and handle FOIA requests with a focus on compliance and risk management.

Required qualifications include a JD from an ABA-accredited school and active Illinois Bar membership, plus seven years' experience in transactional work. Higher education experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Must be a member in good standing of the Illinois Bar.
• Seven years of transactional experience at a law firm, government or in-house setting, focusing on contract review, drafting and negotiation.
• FOIA experience is a plus.
• Experience working for an institution of higher education a plus.
• Strong research, legal writing and human relations skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to revise priorities and maintain confidentiality with discretion.

Responsibilities

• Serves as senior transactional attorney responsible for complex transactions and high-volume contracts.
• Reviews, negotiates, and reaches consensus on customer, supplier, service and other agreements.
• Identifies and analyzes legal issues, drafts key documents, and presents recommendations to management.
• Reviews public records requests under FOIA and prepares responses.
• Conducts legal research on local, state and federal laws and regulations.
• Addresses unusual or complex legal problems with creative solutions.
• Performs other management and legal duties as assigned.
• May supervise Associate General Counsel I attorneys and staff.
