Job summary

Outpost is an orbital logistics company building reusable Earth-return vehicles for rapid, global delivery. The Senior Aerothermal Analysis Engineer will own aerothermal environments for CarryAll, integrating high-fidelity CFD, engineering methods, and test data to drive TPS sizing, structural temperatures, and trajectory limits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of aerothermodynamic analysis in hypersonic, reentry, or rocketry.
• Experience with high-enthalpy flow solvers (FUN3D, US3D, DPLR or similar).
• Experience with parallel computing (MPI) and large CFD campaigns.
• Strong fundamentals in hypersonic aerodynamics, heating, and gas dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Define aerothermal environments for CarryAll across full flight envelope.
• Run high-enthalpy CFD at key trajectory points.
• Bridge CFD points with fast engineering heating methods.
• Combine CFD, estimates, and test results into a single environment product.
• Collaborate with GNC, TPS, structures to define TPS thickness and limits.
• Add solver capability for new physics with custom subroutines.
• Validate methods against analytical cases and wind tunnel/arc-jet tests.
• Automate environment generation and delivery to pace design iterations.
• Manage and maintain compute resources.
