The Senior Aerospace Welding Engineer will serve as an expert for welding and welding manufacturing projects and work integrally with JSEG and customer engineers and engineering technicians. The selected candidate will provide professional, consultation, technical and specialty skill services as needed to resolve unprecedented and/or complex problems pertaining to design, development, analysis, integration, evaluation, testing, and verification of welding and welding manufacturing processes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
  • Conduct research and development investigations to develop and test new welding processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate hypotheses.
  • Prepare technical reports resulting from research and development.
  • Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-weld heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods and welding of critical joints.
  • Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
  • Direct and coordinate technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards.

  • Identifying and documenting manufacturing nonconformances.
  • Resolving manufacturing nonconformances under oversight boards.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working with the following specifications and standards or industry equivalents is desired:
  • NASA-STD-6016, “Standard Materials and Processes Requirements for Spacecraft.”
  • NASA-STD-5006, “General Fusion Welding Requirements for Aerospace Materials Used in Flight Hardware.”
