Job summary

CMC Electronics is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Navigation Systems team in Reston, VA. You will design, develop, test, and maintain software for the Flight Management System and navigation products, applying C/C++ expertise to deliver high-assurance software supporting current and next-generation avionics.

You will mentor developers, collaborate with Systems and Project Engineers, and contribute to DO-178C certification efforts, with up to 15% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in software design and development.
• Experience developing safety-critical, certified software (aerospace/aviation).
• Strong ability to decompose high-level requirements into software design.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and unit testing.
• Familiarity with configuration and requirements tools (e.g., DOORS).
• Experience with certification lifecycle data and audit processes.
• Willingness to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software across the full lifecycle.
• Build modular, scalable architectures aligned with evolving requirements.
• Support hardware integration and system-level testing.
• Investigate defects and implement effective fixes.
