Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer, Metals (Starship) to lead materials strategy for high-performance flight hardware. You will own critical materials, oversee lifecycle from inception to flight, and work with cross-functional teams to solve complex material challenges for next-generation vehicles.

The role requires advanced knowledge of metals, failure analysis, and manufacturing integration, with travel to SpaceX sites as needed. Minor extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in materials science or engineering is required.
• Minimum 5 years in metallics in a materials engineering role or related.
• Experience with high-performance metals and aerospace materials is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own outcomes of critical materials to the program.
• Oversee the material lifecycle from inception to flight.
• Develop physical, mechanical, and thermal properties for materials.
• Perform root cause investigations using fractography and testing.
• Develop and implement reliability improvements in designs and manufacturing.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure proper material utilization.
