The Role

As the CA Wildfires Humanitarian Response Team Leader for US Programs, you will play a crucial role in aiding vulnerable children affected by the LA wildfires. You will lead the Emergencies Response Team in California, ensuring effective management of donor resources, achieving emergency response targets, and fostering relationships within Save the Children US and its domestic partners. Your responsibilities will include providing managerial, technical, and operational leadership, supervising program staff, building partnerships, and monitoring program implementation. This role is vital for executing domestic emergency responses and supporting the organization's humanitarian efforts.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Response Team Lead Main Responsibilities (70%)

  • Develop and implement the CA response strategy.
  • Oversee emergency response program and ensure effective communication.
  • Integrate cash assistance, emergency education, and psychosocial support.
  • Build and maintain relationships with agencies and partner organizations.

Team Management and Strategic Leadership (15%)

  • Train, develop, and supervise staff.
  • Budget for and recruit staff and consultants.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and mentor team members.

Resource & New Business Development (15%)

  • Serve as primary contact for resource development and partnerships.
  • Prospect for new partnerships and funding opportunities.
  • Increase program visibility through marketing and communications efforts.

Required qualifications for the role

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with local, state and federal disaster assistance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex responses and multi-sector integrated programs.
  • Expert level technical and/or managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to lead a department or region, or to provide technical advice, guidance and direction related to large programs.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English

This position may require the incumbent to operate a motor vehicle to fulfill certain essential functions of the job. The incumbent should maintain a valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with any Save the Children policies pertaining to the safe operation of motor vehicles.

Preferred qualificationsfor the role

  • Master’s degree in emergency management, Crisis Management, Social Sciences or equivalent
  • At least 10 years of experience in disaster response, humanitarian assistance, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity.

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 – $121,600 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 – $110,200 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 – $98,800 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
