Job Overview

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Cincinnati, Strategic and Transformative Initiatives Team seeks a Sr. Admissions Counselor to join our team at an exciting time. This role blends the core responsibilities of a territory management, coordinating recruitment efforts, evaluating applications, and conducting appointments with prospective students, and providing hands‑on leadership of the Admissions Support Center (ASC), the office?s front-line communications operation. You’ll supervise and develop a team of student employees, liaison across systems and teams for the CPS Fast Track and OHDE Direct Admit pilots and help shape initiatives that support the division?s enrollment goals. This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys both relationship-driven recruitment work and the operational, people‑leadership side of running a high-volume office function.

This position requires 5 days in-person in an Office environment; in-person office capacity is subject to change as directed by Director of Strategic & Transformative Initiatives upon evaluation after one year in role. Some evening, weekend, and travel commitments required during peak recruitment periods, as described above.

Essential Functions
Core Admissions Counselor Responsibilities
  • Serve as liaison to students admitted through CPS Fast Track or ODHE Direct Admit pilot to help the university reach its enrollment goals while remaining fiscally responsible; serve as the primary point of contact for students/supporters and organizations in that territory.
  • Develop and execute recruitment initiatives that best serve students and partner organizations in your territory, using data to coordinate and plan travel, including visits to high schools and community colleges.
  • Maintain and use information about students and organizations to advise and support students from prospect through application and enrollment.
  • Implement and clearly explain university admissions policies to students, families, and partners.
  • Evaluate applications for admission and make holistic admission decisions using multiple pieces of information, with the accuracy and consistency needed to keep the university aligned with its enrollment goals.
  • Use a CRM system (Slate) to maintain records, generate reports, and help analyze data for planning and evaluation.
  • Serve as a peer leader for fellow Admissions Counselors and take on special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Student Employee Program Leadership
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding for the office's Admissions Support Center student employee team, managing seasonal hiring cycles from job posting through offer letters and HR handoff.
  • Own new-hire training, including a structured onboarding curriculum, shadowing, and ongoing skill development, plus at least one additional training session per semester.
  • Build and maintain weekly student worker schedules, monitor coverage across all shift types, and manage day‑to‑day scheduling questions and last‑minute changes.
  • Plan monthly team meetings, semesterly professional development opportunities, and team‑building events that support student engagement, feedback, and retention.
  • Maintain accurate student worker records and coordinate with HR on hiring, onboarding, and compliance needs throughout the employment lifecycle.
Communications & Inbox Oversight
  • Oversee day‑to‑day management of undergraduate and graduate admissions inboxes, SMS, and voicemail lines, ensuring timely and accurate responses and appropriate staff coverage during absences.
  • Monitor volume and trends across communication channels to inform staffing decisions and process improvements.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date response templates and tracking tools, and coordinate with counterparts on international, transfer, and graduate inbox needs.
  • Develop and distribute regular internal communications to student staff to keep the team informed, engaged, and aligned on office updates and expectations.
