Job summary

RTX’s Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) in East Hartford seeks an experienced engineer to advance AM processes and industrialization. You will provide process expertise, run IQ/OQ/MQ tools, and lead root-cause investigations to improve machine performance and material behavior.

The role requires a university engineering degree (or equivalent) with 3–5+ years of related experience, plus scripting and CAD proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Requires a University Engineering Degree or equivalent experience with minimum 5 years of relevant work, or an advanced degree with minimum 3 years experience.
  • Minimum 1 year scripting experience (Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with CAD tools.
  • Hands-on experience operating manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and IQ/OQ/MQ tools and best practices to increase additive adoption.
  • Evaluate advanced measurement tools for characterizing inputs and melt pool responses to quantify and reduce variability.
  • Lead root cause investigations on build failures, machine or process issues, or product performance gaps; implement corrective actions.
  • Quantify the Process-Structure-Property characteristics of additive materials.
  • Collaborate with government, industry, academic, and RTX partners to develop proposals and whitepapers.
  • Execute and oversee development builds on a range of Additive Manufacturing machines.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to support and improve the full value stream.

The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focused on the research, development, and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.

What You Will Do
  • Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and IQ/OQ/MQ tools and best practices to increase the rate of additive adoption
  • Explore the capabilities of advanced measurement tools for characterizing machine inputs and melt pool / material responses with the goal of quantifying and reducing variability
  • Lead root cause investigations on build failures, machine or process issues, or product performance gaps and implement corrective actions
  • Quantify the Process-Structure-Property characteristics of additive materials
  • Collaborate with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Unit partners to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals
  • Execute and oversee development builds on a wide variety of Additive Manufacturing machines
  • Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to support and improve the full value stream
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a University Engineering Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
  • Minimum 1 year of scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with CAD tools
  • Hands-on experience operating manufacturing equipment
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Preferred candidates for this position will have an advanced degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field. A minimum 3.5 GPA is desirable.
  • Basic understanding of low voltage sensors and control systems
  • Working understanding of AM processes including laser powder bed fusion
  • Experience with metal laser powder bed fusion Additive Manufacturing tools and processes
  • Experience utilizing advanced AM build processors to design custom LPBF tool paths
  • Experience utilizing statistical analysis software packages (Minitab, Stat-Ease360, or similar)

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
