Job summary

General Motors in Warren, MI, is seeking a System Engineer to support the design, procurement, and configuration of hardware for prototype and test vehicle fleets. You will ensure the right components and revisions come together on schedule to build high‑quality development vehicles.

Responsibilities include sensor placement strategy, harness routing, and integration planning, with a focus on manufacturability, EMI shielding, thermal management, and serviceability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in system design, fabrication, and build execution.
• Proven expertise in CAD-based design for sensor placement, harness routing, and component fabrication.
• Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials engineering, and harness design.
• Strong cross functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support component design and fabrication, including sheet metal, aluminum, composites, and advanced 3D-printed parts.
• Develop CAD models for brackets, mounts, and housings to support sensors, ECUs, and harnesses.
• Maintain system configuration baselines, interface definitions, and integration requirements for vehicle builds.
• Translate evolving AV architecture needs into actionable build requirements, dependencies, and timing constraints.
• Coordinate installation sequencing to ensure correct fitment, interface alignment, and version compatibility.
