Job summary

Northwestern Mutual is seeking a senior actuary to lead and supervise actuarial research affecting pricing, dividends, reserves and related financial metrics for life, disability, annuity and long-term care products. The role requires FSA status and broad actuarial expertise to guide cross-functional teams and advise Senior Management.

The individual will stay current with actuarial techniques and regulations, manage interdepartmental projects and mentor subordinates, influencing risk decisions

Qualifications

• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation.
• Minimum of seven years of significant Actuarial experience.
• Substantial knowledge and experience in a variety of actuarial subjects.
• Ability to manage interdepartmental projects and to direct activities of subordinates who are at the officer level.
• Knowledge of Company, industry and regulatory practice and procedures.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform and/or supervise actuarial research and other actuarial work required to advise on product pricing, dividend setting, reserve levels, mortality/morbidity/persistency issues, and field compensation.
• Identify and solve a wide variety of actuarial problems related to the Company's operation.
• Keep up to date on current developments in actuarial techniques and research and on the laws and regulations applicable to the area of responsibility.
• Provide guidance to other officers or department members and represent the department on committees if needed.
