Job summary

Markel seeks an experienced Senior Actuarial professional to lead advanced analyses in pricing and reserving for Commercial Professional Lines. You will develop rate indications, pricing tools, and portfolio insights to drive profitable growth, while evaluating new business opportunities and partnering with underwriting and claims teams.

The role requires ACAS (FCAS preferred), 8–10 years of actuarial experience, and strong communication skills to present findings to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or statistics required.
• ACAS is required; FCAS preferred.
• 8–10 years of actuarial experience in Commercial Lines pricing.

Responsibilities

• Lead pricing analyses for Commercial Professional Lines, including rate indications, pricing tools, and portfolio insights.
• Evaluate and support new business opportunities, including research, modeling, and pricing framework development.
• Partner with Underwriting, Claims, and cross-functional stakeholders to reflect risk characteristics and market dynamics.
• Communicate actuarial findings to senior leadership and adapt analyses per feedback.
• Present results and recommendations in meetings for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Provide guidance on actuarial principles, methodologies, and assumptions driving pricing decisions.
• Contribute to cross-functional initiatives representing Actuarial in business projects.
• Support development of junior staff by reinforcing actuarial best practices.
