Job summary

Pacific Life Insurance Company is hiring a Senior Actuary - Life and Annuity Pricing Modeler to join the Enterprise Modeling Team. On-site 4 days/week with 1 day work-from-home in Newport Beach, CA, Omaha, NE, or Charlotte, NC, with relocation assistance available.

You will develop and maintain pricing models for life and annuity products using an in-house C#-based application, collaborating with Pricing, R&D, Valuation and New Business Reporting teams to deliver advanced modeling capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of actuarial modeling and coding experience.
  • Proficiency in C#, Python, or other programming languages.
  • Self-starter with ability to collaborate across multiple business partners.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage long-term projects independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead pricing model development projects and serve as the modeling SME for life and annuity products.
  • Build and maintain pricing models in a high-speed, user-friendly C#-based pricing system.
  • Perform model development, testing, and debugging of pricing models.
  • Peer review changes and act as internal modeling expert for colleagues.
  • Collaborate with other modeling teams on methodology and technology.
  • Validate pricing models against models used in Valuation/ALM.
  • Support pricing and research actuaries with analyses and speed to market.
  • Educate model users on new features and support production deployment.
  • Support Model Risk Management initiatives and documentation.

We are actively seeking a Senior Actuary - Life and Annuity Pricing Modeler to join our Enterprise Modeling Team. This role is on-site 4 days per week with 1 day per week work-from-home in Newport Beach, CA, Omaha, NE, or Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is available if you are not located near an office.

As a Senior Actuary - Life and Annuity Pricing Modeler, you will develop and maintain actuarial models used in life and annuity product pricing (e.g., Index Universal Life, Variable Universal Life, Term, Registered Index-Linked Annuity, Variable Annuity, and Fixed Annuity products). You will collaborate with Pricing, R&D, Valuation, and New Business Reporting teams to provide advanced modeling and reporting capabilities. You will join a team within the Enterprise Modeling division developing Life and Annuity Pricing Models using our in-house C#-based application.

Responsibilities
  • Lead pricing model development projects and serve as the modeling Subject Matter Expert for new and existing life and annuity products.
  • Apply knowledge of life and annuity products and regulations to build and maintain pricing models in a high-speed, user-friendly C#-based pricing system.
  • Perform model development, testing, and debugging of pricing models.
  • Peer review changes made by other team members and act as an internal modeling expert for colleagues.
  • Collaborate with other modeling teams on methodology and technology.
  • Validate pricing models against those used in other areas (e.g., Valuation, ALM).
  • Support pricing and research actuaries with competition analysis, profit studies, product management, and speed to market.
  • As the model liaison, educate model users on new features and support related production implementation through model deployment.
  • Support and comply with Model Risk Management initiatives, documentation, and standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, computer science, finance, mathematics, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in actuarial modeling and coding.
  • Proficiency in C#, Python, or other programming languages (preferred).
  • Self-starter with the ability to develop solutions by collaborating with multiple business partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team and manage long-term projects.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Preferred qualifications
  • FSA designation.
  • Experience coding in C#, Python, or other programming languages.
  • Experience working with Azure DevOps and/or JIRA pipelines.
  • Experience with software development processes, including CI/CD and version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience with complex products such as IUL, RILA, and other life and annuity products.
  • Experience working with actuarial software such as Prophet, ALFA, MoSes, or GGY.
  • Experience with ALM/Hedging.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary ranges (location specific): Newport Beach, CA: $167,670 - 204,236; Omaha, NE: $144,810 - $176,990; Charlotte, NC: $152,370 - 186,230.
  • Base Pay Range: The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
