Job summary

Velocity Risk is seeking a Sr. Actuarial Manager to lead a growing team of actuaries at the crossroads of traditional actuarial science and data science, owning pricing sophistication and data-driven decision-making for a fast-moving specialty property insurer.

You will automate core actuarial processes, communicate insights to executives, and partner with Finance and Reinsurance to shape portfolio strategy in catastrophe-prone markets while mentoring a high-performing team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field.
• ACAS required; FCAS preferred or near Fellowship.
• 7+ years of P&C actuarial experience focused on property; CAT/E&S or specialty property preferred.
• Direct experience leading pricing and reserving workstreams, including indications and analyses.
• Proven track record deploying pricing models using GLMs, GAMs, GBMs into production raters.
• Experience upgrading and maintaining rating tools for underwriters and partners.
• Experience with reserve studies (IBNR) and finance collaboration on reserves.
• Collaboration across underwriting, product, reinsurance, and finance to steer portfolio strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end pricing strategy across the property portfolio.
• Design, build, and maintain pricing models using GLMs, GAMs, and GBMs.
• Own reserving strategy and delivery, including IBNR and loss ratio analysis.
• Upgrade, modernize, and maintain rating tools/raters for pricing accuracy.
• Partner with underwriting, product, finance, and reinsurance to translate analytics into decisions.
• Develop, coach, and grow a high-performing actuarial team.
• Drive automation and process improvement for pricing and reserving.
• Communicate complex actuarial concepts to executives and non-technical stakeholders.
