Job summary

Brighthouse Financial is seeking a Sr Actuarial Associate in the Model Risk Management (MRM) team to perform model validations across the organization and research emerging actuarial issues in the life insurance space. This role sits within Corporate Risk Management and collaborates with Pricing, Valuation, ALM, Audit, and other critical functions.

You will independently validate models, identify risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and partner with teams to strengthen design and governance.

Qualifications

• Experience with annuity valuation, modeling, and hedging.
• Strong financial modeling with Excel and VBA.
• Experience using actuarial modeling software such as Prophet or similar.
• ASA designation preferred or near completion.
• Familiarity with PBR valuation guidance is a plus.
• Interest in AI model risk and validation practices is beneficial.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent model validations, review documentation, assess risks, and propose validation strategies.
• Identify model risks and issues; propose design, controls, and governance improvements.
• Ensure regulatory compliance for models and promote sound modeling practices.
• Collaborate with Pricing, ALM and Valuation to provide validation support.
• Support Model Governance with risk-based model reviews.

How You’ll Contribute

As the Sr Actuarial Associate of the Model Risk Management (MRM) team, the individual will perform model validations across the organization and research key emerging actuarial issues within the life insurance space. This position sits within Corporate Risk Management (CRM) and collaborates closely with key stakeholders across business functions including Pricing, Valuation, Asset Liability Management (ALM), Audit, and other critical functions

In This Role, You’ll Get To

• Perform independent model validations, including reviewing model documentation, evaluating model risks, and proposing review strategies and recommendations
• Identify model risks and issues and propose enhancements to model design, controls, and governance
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for applicable models, while promoting sound modeling practices
• Partner with teams across Pricing, ALM, and Valuation to provide effective challenge and validation support
• Support the Model Governance function by performing risk-based model reviews
• Leverage AI tools to support research and develop tools for model validation
• Perform and support other CRM initiatives as needed

We’re Looking For People Who Have

• Prior experience with annuity products (i.e., index, fixed, or RILA) in valuation, modeling, and hedging
• Strong financial modeling background with advanced experience in Excel and VBA
• Experience using actuarial modeling software such as Prophet or similar
• Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation highly preferred; candidates near ASA and relevant annuity experience will also be considered
• Familiarity with PBR and pre-PBR valuation guidance is a plus
• Interest in emerging AI model risk and validation practices is beneficial
• Strong attention to detail with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

• Compensation – Total Compensation ranging from $115,000 - $143,000 inclusive of base salary and competitive performance-based incentives determined by company and individual results.
