Job summary

Benchmark Senior Living in Hamden, CT is seeking a compassionate Programming/Activity Assistant to organize and lead engaging activities for residents.

You will support the Activity Director, tailor programs to meet emotional, physical, and cognitive needs, and ensure safety during outings and group events. A high school diploma or equivalent and knowledge of aging/dementia are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma, bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and disability issues.
• Possesses training and knowledge in recreational activities.
• Possesses training and knowledge of Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the community.
• Coordinates multiple tasks with a positive attitude and performs well under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements a seven day a week activity program that is engaging.
• Leads one-on-one, small group, and large group activities according to schedule.
• Supports independent activity pursuits for residents.
• Keeps activities aligned with residents' background, needs, and abilities.
• Demonstrates knowledge of residents' interests and cognitive capacity.
• Motivates residents to participate in programming.
• Communicates changes in residents' condition to the Harbor Care Director.
• Stays with groups during excursions.
