Job summary

Surf Search Inc. in Carlsbad, CA, is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager / Cost Accountant to lead costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting for our manufacturing operations.

You will develop standard costs, analyze variances, and drive cost optimization to support growth and profitability. This is a fully onsite role requiring strong cross-functional collaboration, excellent communication, and hands-on experience with ERP cost modules.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a cost accountant focused role.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA preferred.
• Knowledge of cost accounting modules within ERP systems, ideally Microsoft AX.
• Manufacturing company experience required.
• Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory management.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with a strong sense of personal responsibility.
• Knowledge of the full suite of general ledger accounts that support the financial statements.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain Cost Accounting process
• Develop and maintain standard costs for all manufactured products
• Analyze cost variances (material, labor, overhead) and provide recommendations for cost optimization
• Monitor inventory valuation and ensure accurate financial reporting of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
• Conduct cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies between physical inventory and financial records
• Ensure proper accounting for scrap, rework and obsolete inventory
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports for management
• Educate Sr. Accountant in Cost Accounting function so they can maintain the process
• Manage Monthly and Quarterly Close processes
• Transition to Accounting Manager role (if interested)
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities related to manufacturing costs
