Job summary

Professional Alternatives is seeking a Senior Accounting Lead in Bayside, NY to own the day-to-day accounting function and lead an Accounting Assistant onsite. The role reports to the President and focuses on month-end close, reconciliations, and regulatory reporting.

Ideal candidates bring 4+ years of accounting experience, strong internal controls, and an understanding of cash activity. Real estate/title experience is a plus; this is an in-office, full-time position with high visibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 4+ years of accounting experience including month-end close and bank reconciliations.
• Experience reviewing/training/directing a junior accounting team member; informal lead ok.
• Strong understanding of cash activity and internal controls; high integrity with sensitive funds/approvals.
• Preferred: title/escrow/real estate settlement experience with three-way reconciliations and remittances.

Responsibilities

• Run day-to-day accounting across operating and escrow accounts.
• Review daily cash activity and resolve banking exceptions; escalate suspicious items.
• Approve wires, refunds, and check requests within limits; route high-value items for approval.
• Own month-end close including journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications.
• Prepare bank and escrow reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Produce monthly financial statements and reporting packages (P&L, volume, payroll-to-premium).
• Oversee payroll-related accounting activities including pay runs and reconciliations.
• Review AP and vendor payment instruction changes before updates.
• Support underwriter/regulatory filings and audit schedules as needed.
• Provide day-to-day direction to Accounting Assistant; assist training and process docs.
